LOTRO: Exploring Middle-earth – Tinnudir

Since the fall of Arnor, the Rangers of the North – the heirs ofIsildur, Elendil’s son – have often journeyed to the shores of LakeEvendim to pay homage to their lineage and to protect the tombs thatlie amidst the ruins there. Many years ago, Aragorn, the Chieftain ofthe Dúnedain, came to Evendim himself to reclaim a lost treasure, ajewel known as the Silithar. Though Aragorn did not succeed in itsrecovery, his companion Calenglad and a small party of Rangers remainedin Evendim, establishing an encampment on the island of Tinnudir fromwhich to protect the Silithar from lowly tomb-robbers.

Long years have passed since Calenglad established the camp atTinnudir, but he and his companions maintain their duty to their lord, even now. With the aid of some of the more upstanding citizens of thetown of Ost Forod, they keep vigil over the ruins of Annúminas and thetombs of the kings, waiting for the day when Aragorn will return toclaim what is his by birthright.

Tinnudir is one of many locations in the region of Lake Evendim created by the designers of The Lord of the Rings Online™: Shadows of Angmar™, utilizing a space of land little discussed by J.R.R. Tolkien in The Lord of the Rings. Upon ...

Death Knight Interview and Lore

Design Team: Q&A

World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King will add anew option to the game’s class roster with the introduction of thefirst hero class, the necromantic death knight. During the Second andThird Wars, the people of Azeroth learned to fear these merciless, unholy warriors and their terrifying runeblades. Leading legions of theundead into battle during the Third War, the Lich King’s death knightsproved both their strength and their cunning on several occasions, making them an invaluable part of the Scourge army.

In Wrath of the Lich King, you will be able to pickup a runeblade, don some plate armor, and wreak serious havoc usingboth melee abilities and offensive magic. To give you an early glimpseat the design philosophy behind the new class, we sat down with theWorld of Warcraft design team to talk about the role the death knightwill play in the expansion’s story as well as in its gameplay, and toget their thoughts about goals and ideas for the new class.

One of the biggest news at this year’s BlizzConwas the announcement of World of Warcraft’s next expansion, Wrath ofthe Lich King, and the introduction of the game’s first hero class, thedeath knight. What made you choose

Dungeons & Dragons Tactics Reviews

A veritable bevy of sites has fresh D&D Tactics reviews up for you to enjoy. We'll start with RPGWatch, who offer a good read as usual. At the beginning of the review I mentioned being of two minds about thegame, yet it would be easy to pull a singular view from the review -that I hate the game. Yet I don't hate it; in fact I truly enjoy thegame. For over a month I had two games - D&D Tactics and JeanneD'Arc - alternating in my PSP ... then I got a new PSP and had one ineach system until I eventually finished.

The bottom line is this- the game is full of issues and quirks, but it is like so many PCRPG's in that regard. It reminds me of Temple of Elemental Evil when itfirst came out - there were plenty of problems, but it was fun and thecombat was solid. And that is ultimately what it is all about. I workedaround the camera issues because exploration was fun. I adapted tofinding all chests before killing the last monster because I wanted allof the loot. I figured out how to deal with the game not telling youabout encumbrance issues so I wouldn't have to leave anything behind. And more than anything, I dealt with whatever inconvenience the gamethrew at me because I found the application

Age of Conan Clan of Conan Newsletter

The tenth issue of the Age of Conan "Clan of Conan" newsletterincludes information about PvP siege warfare, the Darfari cannibalwarriors, and more. This sounds a lot like what Shadowbane was strivingfor years ago:
Siege warfare was brought into Age of Conan:Hyborian Adventures because Funcom as developers wanted to give playersthat epic feeling of being part of a large-scale battle. We have allwatched movies like Braveheart, 300, Kingdom of Heaven – all these epicbattle movies – and we realized how amazing it would be to bring thatinto a massive online game. So we did, naturally.

If you everopen a Conan book or comic, you quickly realize that war rages acrossthe ravaged surface of Hyboria. Conflicts are not so much an exceptionas it is a fact of life, not necessarily between the nationsthemselves, but often between factions residing within their troubledborders.

In Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures player guildswill sooner or later end up in such conflicts with each other. Once aguild reaches a reasonable size and stature on a server, theopportunity to own a battlekeep will soon arise. But with only alimited number of battlekeeps per server allowed, guilds will have towar against eac

GW State of the Game: Splits: Chapter One

Special note: Each State of the Game presents the opinions andinsights of one game observer. These observations are personal innature and do not reflect the opinions of ArenaNet. While ArenaNet doesreview each State of the Game article to assure that it offers contentthat is respectful of all players, we intend to allow our reporters thefreedom to inject some personal opinion into descriptions of thecurrent atmosphere of competitive play in Guild Wars, and to expressviews based on their experience and observation.

NPCs, Splits, and You

The current guild battle metagame favors teams capable of splittingwell. With builds investing heavily in static defenses, splits areoften necessary to produce kills and advantages in battle. At the sametime, successful splits can often create an NPC advantage, which ismore important due to changes to VoD. With a 200% damage buff againstthe Guild Lord, a large NPC swarm applies heavy pressure at the flagstand.

The Official LOTRO Developer Response Concerning the Balrog Lore

In J.R.R. Tolkien's TheLord of the Rings, one of the most awe-inspiring momentsin the saga was the Fellowship's flight through Moria, only to betrapped at the least moment by a flame-wreathed creature made of shadowand sporting equally menacing weapons of a sword and a whip. It wasthis creature, the Balrog, that forced Gandalf the Grey to give up hislife to save the remaining members of the Fellowship. When he returnedto the world of the living, he was Gandalf the White. The Balrogencounter in the bowels of Moria truly was a huge turning point in The Lord of the Rings saga,as it also inevitably broke up the Fellowship and caused Aragorn totake up the mantle of leadership after Gandalf fell. If anyone didn'tbelieve it was a pivotal encounter, they'd be kidding themselves.

For a bit of short background info on the Balrog, these powerfulcreatures were originally Maiar, angel-like beings thatbelonged to the same order as Gandalf and Sauraman, but through thetemptations of a Valar (similar to archangels), the Maiar werecorrupted and became the Balrogs. However, many LOTRO lore afficionadoshave contended that having an encounter with a Balrog - aside from theBalrog in Moria - is an affron
