The Future Of MMORPG's
Category: Rantings and Opinions Game: Default Posted on Feb 29, 2008 9:04 pm 469Views 1CommentsHello again, This is going to be my second blog entry and today i am going to write about the future of mmorpgs and give you my opinion on where i think in the future mmorpg games are headed and where i would like to see them headed!
As of today there hasn't been an mmorpg release that has blown me away and made me say, wow this is the future of role playing games. The problem is with todays mmorpgs is they dont add anything new to the genre they stick to the same old mmorpg base line that we have seen for years and years on end, Now some of you might be thinking hey thats not true ive seen mmorpgs bring something new to the table, well im not disagreeing with you some mmorpgs have brought new stuff to the table but for me the stuff they brought wasnt enough to make me say HOLY JESUS CAKE! this is good. The little stuff they bring to the table is just to seperate it from a different game.
For me todays mmorpgs arn't spending enough attention to detail on the role playing aspect of the title! It seems that every mmorpg is repetitive wether it be grinding or questing your still doing the same thing over and over again. I haven't played an mmorpg that has actually dragged me into the story or into my character i always feel like im just running around killing stuff for better gear, While thats fun i believe thats all todays mmorpgs consist of kill stuff to get better gear so you can do more damage so you can kill high lvl stuff so you can get even better gear! What happened to the good old days of storyline, Sure todays rpgs have storylines but they dont put enough attention to detail in them they will just give you a bit of the storyline here a bit of a story line here and really most of the time you just bypass the storyline without actually realising that it was the story! For example i played the whole Guild Wars series without understanding once what the story line was! because well the cut scenes dont even give you much of a story there just giving a mini story on the mission your doing!
If future mmorpgs want to continue to capture mine and other peoples attentions there gonna have to rethink the entire system of what an mmorpg is sapose to be! For me the perfect mmorpg would be were you are allowed to do anything you want make friends with anyone you want and also make enimes with who want. For example say an NPC gives you a quest, Well maybe i dont like that NPC so im going to kill him maybe that raises my evil meeter and effects the storyline! You know kinda like fable did.. but fable was to i donno short for the most part and it didnt really matter if u followed the path of evil or good the story line was still the same! I want to be free to roam in an mmorpg and be able to choose what i want to do! You know kind of like real life your able to choose what you want to do and theres always consquences and rewards for what you choose to do! For example what if i didnt like the town i was in, I should be able to leave that town to explorer and then create my own town now as to wiether that town would be sucessful depends on the resources near by and the people it attracts, maybe someone doesnt like you starting a new town so they can attack it.
I donno about you guys but i just feel as if no current mmorpg brings anything intresting to the table that would actually change the face of mmorpgs to come in the future! It just feels to linear and repetitive and thats not what an mmorpg is sapose to feel like.
Im gonna ask you guys do you feel like producers of mmorpg games are sticking to much to the standards of an mmorpg instead of thinking outside of the box? And also what would you like to see in the future of mmorpgs!
This concludes my opinions, What are yours!
