The Secret World was released like a week ago and all the fuzz and talk about the game got my attention, so I bought the game like 2 days ago and after playing the game for 12 hours straight I have to say one thing... OH SNAP!!!! I am probably having more fun in this game than in a whole year of playing other mmos.
All I know about the game is the usual thing, the graphics look cool (if you got the hardware... DX11 and Tessellation FTW), the game is not vibrant and colorful as hell, after all TSW is about modern times with a strange twist on it, the desaturated colors and the general feeling of distress feels kinda cool, or maybe I am just tire of playing colorful games...
There is no traditional levels, its in modern times, there is no invisible walls and there is BODY BLOCK!!!!! I have to be honest I love the feature, now I can run away and actually get away from some pestering player in PvP...
I dont know about you guys but for me it is so annoying when I want to run away and the other player simply move through my allies and get me... I know he gets killed anyways but now, I can get away and enemy trying to get me dies in the way lol...
That is probably my main point here, PvP!!!, I was playing in the China Warzone this mourning and so far I had the best PvP experience of my life, it feels massive, fun, not chaotic and it feels playable... I am not lagging all the way down to 1 frame per second (Aion...)
A the same time there is some serious movement around the place, we have 3 factions trying to control a bunch of control points around the map, so if one strategy doesn't work, try another one... If you think that going X way is an horrible idea, take the Y way. At least there is a reason for the 3 factions to move around and spread out if the need arises. This is not Ilum lol!!!!
The PvP in this friggin Warzone is like Openworld but at the same time is inside an instance, like something in between. Create a big instance and allow a lot of people to get in, run around and slap their enemies and kiss their friends. I really like the feeling of the PvP so far... (balance is another issue for another day lol)...
I really like the PvP arenas in TSW, for the first time I feel that someone finally did what I have been saying since the Stone Age... Copy the Unreal Tournament Onslaught rules set and you will end up with a nice piece of PvPness around the place...
Anyway, no more PvP... The questing and general PvE feels kinda cool too, I dunno why some people said that the combat was dull and the sound was so wimpy... I am running around the place with a shotgun and it sounds like a shotgun, if you want more volume then get some nice speakers and tweak with the equalizer frequencies and settings, I dont know if the previous beta sounds used to be crap but the ones I get right now are good enough for me...
The questing on the other hand is nothing new or groundbreaking but is not as bad as other game titles... (Te...), I know we have the usual kill 10 rats quests but at the same time we have investigation quests, puzzles, look for X item, follow the trail of blood, etc... It feels more like Guild Wars 1 in that matter... If the GW1 argument doesnt sound very convincing then lets say that the quests are not so dull compared to the ones in swtor...
Crafting...!!!! I dont know why I am going to say this but I cant help myself, I have to do it... The crafting feels like Minecraft!!! I simply break down some random weapons I dont use and then use the material in some sort of assembly box and depending on the position of the stuff in that window, I get X item or Y item...
In conclusion, my first impression is: "Outstanding hell of a game"... It looks like someone compiled my favorite mechanics and features into one package lol... Lets hope they keep it that way...
