3 Factions!!! The way of the future????

I have so much stuff in my mind right now, I can barely concentrate in what I am doing anymore because so much is happening in the mmo industry right now...

Maybe you peeps dont even notice it but it looks like the 3 factions trend is starting to pick up some speed!!!! I dont want to feed the lovers of the 3 factions nor the haters but I do see something very interesting here...

It looks like the old school "3 factions player distribution system" used in DaoC and RF Online is starting to pick up some speed after all the games made using only 2 factions...

I know that the fans of DaoC will say that its way better to have 3 factions than 2 factions because of the balance and the haters are going to point out that 2 vs 1 is not exactly a 3 way battle at all... That is not the point!!!! I am not here to argue if the system is good or not, all I know is that back in the day my friends used to play DaoC and the game was cool and fun.

My point is that right now developers are starting to recycle an old formula, but... Why???? Well, if you ask me, I will say that the 2 factions only formula is getting old and is full of problems like balance and plague with constant stalemates and exploits, or maybe they just want something different that's all..

Anyway, here are a few games that are going to use or implement the almighty 3 way PvP..

Rift!!!!

I know that Rift is basically more of the same... The Bad guys vs The not so Bad guys... but!!!! As far as I know, Trion is going to add a new 3 way PvP system, I heard something of the mechanics involved and it looks kinda interesting, the problem is that in the end the game is a 2 factions game and drama is certainly going to take its place, not to mention that the usual phenomenon known as "Unexpected Players Behavior" is going to cause certain problems...

Example: My best friend is in another team... We are both Defiants but since he is in another team, I am going to behave like a douchebag and cause problems in my team and slow down my team... By just distracting them, training mobs, not healing or just screwing up the buffs and such.

The Secret World...

This one is probably going to be the "3 way" flagship for some time, the game was developed from the ground up taking the 3 way mechanics into consideration, or at least that is what the media hype train want us to believe... I am not sure if the game is going to succeed or if is going to fail... All i know is that the the game is not going to have 2 factions only... lol!

Its a bit Ironic but back in the day TSW told the whole world that 3 factions is the way to go. The issue was that no one cared about it until now... The game is going to be released soon and now everyone is like, OMG!!! I am going to have 3 factions pvp soon, play my game....!!!!

The Elder Scrolls Online????

I heard a rumor around the place that The Elder Scrolls is going to have 3 factions too... I will put my biases at one side but right now I am not sure if Bethesda or whoever is working on this game is turning the game into a 3 factions because that seems to be the new sensation and he wants to be like everyone else, or they really want to make a 3 way faction game from heart.

All I know is that TESO is not going to be released any time soon and in the meantime we can see other game developers adding the 3 factions mechanic into their games, Rift is the first one to take the leap... Who knows if some other games like SWTOR... (LOL!!!)... Do something similar and encourage 1vs2... I mean 3 way factions...

If you ask me, I am under the impression that more and more developers are willing to think outside the box and forget about the old and somewhat ineffective, 'Bag guys vs Good guys' formula... The players want something different, the good news are that we are going to have a small flood of 3 factions games for a while...

The next thing I want to see is... 5 factions in a game... 'Liberal Humans' vs 'Oppressive Humans' vs 'Haywire AI' vs 'Mutant' vs 'Aliens'... if one day they do that... Is going to be Awesome!!!!
