The Secret World - PvP Review.
Category: Steaming Out!!! Game: The Secret World Posted on Aug 05, 2012 11:01 am 4042Views CommentsHey peeps, around a month ago I joined the ranks of the Illuminati in The Secret Wold, doing what everyone else does in the game, kill stuff, get more abilities, get new gear and do some PvP!!! That thing my friends is the center of controversy in TSW, some people think that the PvP in TSW sucks. If you surf the web, you will notice that a lot of reviewers usually complain and bitch about the PvP...
If you search for some information about TSW PvP over the internet, you will see stuff like this...
1... There is no Open World PvP.
2... Only 2 battlefields and 1 Persistent Warzone.
3... People complain about balance.
I have to be honest, they are telling you the true when it comes to Open World PvP and the battlefields. Why in the hell they think that 'No Open World' PvP is bad is beyond me. The last thing I want is to get ganked in the open world all the time, stuck every 5 minutes because a Zerg squad is roaming the playfield. Its even counter productive against the game lore. If the 3 factions keep fighting each other outside the PvP warzones, its only a matter of time before the zombies, cultists and vampires overrun the whole map.
Another thing is that the whole gaming world is the same for all the factions, we basically do the same missions, we get the same gear and we walk around each other, we can even group together to do instances... With Open World PvP... Bye bye to the easy grouping and questing. If you ask me, the game world is not design for Open World PvP and it looks like such thing is not going to work well at all... The best thing that Funcom did was to get rid of the Open World PvP idea in the standard playing fields.
The second complain I heard is that the game only have 3 places to do some PvP... C'mon guys, we all know that other games also depend on close quarter instances to deliver some serious PvP that doenst turn into a total 'Chaotic Zerg-fest'. Some other developers implemented the PvP flagging system, but again, such thing goes against the game lore. If you want to do some PvP and enjoy the wonders of a 3 faction system, press the 'P' key and join the mayhem.

Oh wait!!!! Fusang Project is a 'Swap-fest'!!!!
Fusang Project is a 75vs75vs75 Warzone Arena, you get 3 missions and after you complete the missions, you have to wait between 10 to 30 minutes to get them again. Some people is saying that the players are swapping the 'Wells' and factories without fighting other players... That is probably the biggest LIE in the world.
When I join the arena I try to do all the missions and for the most part I usually finish the 3 missions in one go. Keep in mind that there is a kill 10 players mission, how in the hell I am going to be able to finish that mission if people dont fight each other... I have to admit that the map is a bit of a swap-fest but without the constant swapping people wont be able to finish the missions and get the rewards at all.
The game balance is all over the place!!!
There is no classes in TSW, you can get every friggin ability if you want, if there is something that actually works, then use it!!!! Why in the hell people keep complaining about balance in PvP, if there is an ability template that actually works, then you should get the skills and use that ability template... Problem solved!!!!
Every game is the same old story, if you want to do some PvP, you better have the correct template for PvP, the issue here is not balance, the issue is that some people want to do some PvP using the wrong template!!! Look at other games like GW1, EVE, Blacklight and a few others, people know that some stuff works and some other stuff dont work... Why in the hell in TSW people have to complain about the stuff that is not exactly good???
Players usually figure out which one is the best template for PvP, or the best template for raiding or the best of the best if you want to do some farming, etc... Depending on the situation you better get the best template or you are going to be discriminated by the rest of the people...
In conclusion... The PvP in The Secret World is exactly that, Player vs Player combat!!!! Nothing more and nothing less, it does what it needs to do, its not exactly ground breaking or innovative but is not bad, its just good enough to have some fun from time to time. If you thought that TSW was going to be a PvP based game, then you need to do some research behind your games before you jump into them.
