Hey peeps, there is a discussion thread in the forums about why do you play X game, some of the reasons include graphics, gameplay, etc… At some point I notice that some people play a game because their friends play it, which is absolutely cool if you play a game because of your friends and at the same time you are having a good time in it.

The problem is that I also notice that some people are in a game because of their friends, but that doesn’t mean that they are actually enjoying the game at all… Some people are probably playing for example World of Warcraft because their friends are there, but in the end they don’t want to play it but at the same time they don’t want to face the loneliness of not having anyone to do something with, not to mention the peer pressure you get everyday to play WoW…

I use WoW as an example because I am sure that this kind of situation is present in that game. I am a prime example of that, I don’t like WoW at all, I hate its goofy looking gfx and a bunch of other things, but around 2005 I got into WoW because some of my friends annoyed me every day they see me with stupid comments like: “Get WoW, that other game sucks” or “Dude join WoW because that is where everyone is”… Those are only 2 examples… The ones that I can actually translate and post here, the rest are not so goody goody for me to publish them lol!

In the end, I never liked WoW at all, I hate WoW, as you can see I played it, not because I wanted in the first place, it was because peer pressure for the most part.

Another problem is when a group of friends play X game, but non of them is actually enjoying it anymore, but they all stay because of the social inertia. Non of them dares to break the circle. Its like having a group of 10 playing the game but non of them will take the first step in saying, hey guys lets change to another game, this is kinda boring…

The old social flaw, I think you will do it and you think that I will do it… In the end no one did anything at all… So we keep rolling in the same thing over and over and over…

That is another thing I wonder about WoW, the game have millions of players but we don’t know how many people are there because this social phenomenon, if that is the case then it is only a matter of time until all that people find another hobbies and ways to have fun and leave WoW…
