Social Online Games: The Moral Dilemma

Social online games such as imvu make quite a bit of money. If you've ever seen the people who play these games you would be able to tell because they have hundrends of clothes and items, and are also paying for special features that these social games offer. All of this costs a lot of money for players. They may not notice at first but after a while it really adds up.

I am personally interested in this because I don't see the value in any of it. That is social games in general (I'm more of a do-it sort of guy, and so sitting around and talking kinds of games bore the crap out of me. If I wanted to talk socially 24/7 I'd go hang out with my friends).

Some of the things I have seen with these types of social games worry me though. There are adult features which players can buy after buying a sort of "adult pass." You have to be eighteen to buy these "adult passes," but players can basically just lie about their ages and it's fine. These social games don't require any proof and maybe I'm just being a bit of a worry wart, but doesn't it bug anyone else that children could be exposed to such things when they aren't ready? It does me a bit.

It just seems like these sort of social games would do anything to make money, even if it's exposing younger audiences to inappropriate content (for their age level). I actually don't really see how these actions are even morally allowable, but apparently in this world that we live in, money trumps all morals.
