Hey fellow gamers and MMO addicts! I hope you all are having a great Year of the Dragon!
How many of you guys love coming up with lore, and spend copious amounts of time imagining how you would create your very own ideal MMO? Well, I am guilty of doing these things constantly, even doodling away on random creatures and weapons for hours on end.
To keep things simple, I just wanted to ask the community a creative question:
If you were a game designer for your favorite MMO, and someone has tasked you with the responsibility of creating new content for a quest/event/mission, what would you create?
As for me, I would definitely want to create something that is deep and has multiple layers to the objectives. I would definitely try my best to avoid the classical slash and fetch quest methods, but I understand that sometimes you just have to insert those in.
Here's a nifty little event that I created in my head for (drumroll + captin obvious) Guild Wars 2:
A group of villagers run towards the players, injured and exhausted. They explain that while they were tending to the crops on their farmlands, a strange vibration from the ground below caused part of the land to form tiny little cracks. At first, the villagers thought nothing of it, and continued farming. After a while, a strange necrotic gas begins to leak from the crack, poisoning and even killing a few of the villagers. That is how they started to flee for their lives, bumping into the players after some time.
The players are then shown the way to the farmlands, and after some exploration, finds that these cracks have begun to form huge underground cave holes. Gathering a small group, the players delve deep into the underground and encounter a buried away necromancer who had been using part of the underground caverns as a lair for nasty experiments. The players then proceed with options to either pursuade the necromancer to stop with his ways, or immediately attempt to attack and slay the dark wizard.
Dammit you necromantic one! I, holy avenger of Ascalon, do not approve of those creepy looking ghost skulls spewing from your demonic hands!
Now obviously, this event would actual take some serious scripting and iterations to even consider implementation into the game. But who cares? Creativity is good stuff.
So guys, if you could create something sweet for your MMO of choice, from the simple fetch quests to the complicated raid events, what would it be?
