Mid afternoon on January 16th Grummz, Red 5 CEO, made a community announcement that they will be joining the League For Gamers movement in Washington D.C. In his commentary Grummz stated:
"If ever there was a time to have the Firefall army rise up. this is it!
If your are pissed about SOPA, PIPA and how the ESA has turned its back on gamers by supporting this legislation, join us. We just founded LFG, or League For Gamers. it is a non-profit group dedicated to representing gamers and like minded devs in Washington.
To kick it off, Red 5 has donated $50,000 to the cause. Sign up on the site, like our Facebook page, and sign the petition to stop the ESA from supporting Protect IP which is still going up for vote.
Www.LeagueForGamers.org" (FF Community Forums January 16, 2012)
This brought the weight of the whole community to pour into LFG and share their voice with PiPA and SOPA among other movemnts the Gaming Community is taking issue with the legislation that targets freedom of speech, expression and the internet community at large. Shortly after their FireFall Community Forums post LFG Administrators followed up with a pledge to the community on the LFG site directly, stating:
"We are extremely proud to announce that Red 5 Studios, makers ofFirefall, have pledged $50,000 to fund League For Gamers operation and start-up costs and fuel the gamer fight against the misguided Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect IP (PIPA).The LFG will use these funds to found our non-profit organization and retain legal resources needed to represent gamers to protect 1st amendment rights to free speech in games, oppose legislation harmful to gamers and developers, and begin building a solid base of gamers and developers to foster solidarity and spread the enjoyment of gaming as a pastime and e-Sport." (LFG News January 16, 2012)
These gestures and community involvement bring Red 5 Studios to the top of their charts within their gaming community and a cut above the rest. If you would like to make your voice heard in the US gaming community feel free to head on over to LFG and join the movement.
Cheers
