tastes very Thanksgiving-y to me

As we get closer to the holiday season, it’s time to start thinking about easy cocktails that will serve a crowd. After cooking all day, the last thing we want to do with a house of people, is shake up cocktails for guests. With that in mind, I created this cranberry orange sparkler. It only takes a few ingredients, it’s made directly in the glass and it tastes great. Can’t beat that for a holiday cocktail!

The only prep work you’ll need to do for this cranberry orange sparkler is make the syrup ahead of time. It’s a cranberry orange tea infused simple syrup, and kept in the refrigerator will last at least a week. I used loose leaf herbal cranberry orange tea from Davidson’s Tea since I have a large bag of it. It smells and tastes very Thanksgiving-y to me.

I did add gin to this cranberr

I pretty much love that thing

I have been taking way too many pictures recently. It always seems like a good idea at the time. Better safe than sorry, you know, but then I end up having way too many to choose from and having the hardest time deciciding. It’s a problem hong kong tour.

Triple Chocolate Sour Cream Scones It’s just that I am loving finally getting to spend quality time with my new camera. I am not a natural photographer you guys. It has taken me a long time to get this far and I obviously need a lot longer but I at least feel like I am getting a little better at it….maybe.

Triple Chocolate Sour Cream Scones1 Today I am posting one of my favorite new recipes. You seriously have to try it unless you are a scone hater. I mean, is it just me or are scones notorious for being dry and bland? The people who thi

I love the dark amber color

Happy Memorial weekend, everybody!  I wanted to take a minute and thank all of the men and women out there that have and are currently serving our country.  It wouldn’t be what is today without them, so I can’t thank them enough for their service. :)

Besides remembering those that serve our country, I know Memorial Day is mostly about picnics and barbecues.   While I have been grilling this weekend, this post has nothing to do with that.  It has everything to do with thick, chewy macaroon cookies dipped in chocolate and filled with a gooey, salted caramel sauce, however, and that makes it completely ok, doesn’t it? ;)

I’ve told you before that I don’t bake cookies a whole lot unless there’s an occasion for it, and last week there was.  Some time back I’d tol

I like to grill all chicken breasts at

Happy Monday everyone, welcome to a new week!

This weekend the boys and I traveled north to St. Paul, MN to attend Ben’s cousin’s wedding on Friday. His parents, brothers, aunts, and uncles all came into town early and per usual it was great catching up. The weather was perfect too. FINALLY no rain, plus a nice cool breeze. Perfect wedding weather!

The ceremony was inside a chapel at Northwestern College and at nearly 100 years old, it was just breathtaking lit up with flickering candles. I’m glad I got the chance to chat with family members before the ceremony because the L-man made it about 10 minutes into the reception before needing to go to bed (hence no cake-cutting pictures!)

He’s not at the age/type of baby that can just fall asleep on your shoulder, but luckily it was inside the

That’s what makes them super soft

I have a little announcement to make today, and I totally made these cookies just to do it. Or maybe the announcement was just an excuse to make cookies. Maybe you can guess from the color of today’s sprinkles? Yep! We’re having a baby girl! Marc and I had our ultrasound on Friday, and they said we’ll be meeting a little baby girl in October. Pretty exciting, isn’t it? We’re thrilled. I mean, we would have been thrilled either way, but it’s really cool to know what our future holds. Now, if we could just settle on a name for her, we’d be ready to go Maggie Beauty.

it's a girl Anyway, I’ve been craving sugar cookies like crazy lately. I even went to the grocery store to buy some Lofthouse ones recently, and they were out! I was so disappointed. I’ve spent a ton of time scouring the inter

I love this fruit

It seems our brief period of “winter” has come to an end, lasting just under a month. For a while our whole city revelled in the under 22C weather, everyone wanting to eat outdoors in the cool breezes. Suddenly jackets and scarves and boots-wid-da-fur were being paraded out on the streets. There was an actual chill in the air and every person who sweated out 11 months of tropics wanted a piece of the action Alexander Hera.

Now the chill is gone, we are back to using the a/c at night, and the sun has come out again to remind me who’s boss. But even as I fuss, you and I know that I love being in the sun – swimming in the sea, wearing tank tops and flip flops all year, and the vibrant tropical fruits! Mango is at the very top (come over here to try the very best in the world!), followed by

would be very welcome

What a difference a roasting makes. Sometimes things that wouldn’t normally appeal transform themselves into the sublime when put through extreme conditions – like diamonds, and people, and bell peppers. Add heat (or pressure) and a rock turns into a brilliant gem, a girl becomes a queen, and a crunchy red bell pepper which I don’t really enjoy turns into a soft, sweet, succulent piece of deliciousness. I say, magic does exist for those who believe!

I was never fond of red bell peppers. Call me unsophisticated, but I never properly made friends with its flavour and texture when in its crunchy, semi-raw state. So I lived in ignorance, unaware of the pleasure that waited down capsicum lane after a good roasting. Now I am a convert. Roasted red bell peppers are one of my favourite things. E

give a big smile to challenges

First, I would like to know, what does your destiny offer you? Happiness, wisdom, a strong body or something else. If I had asked this question to president Nixon, he would probably had said, "Our destiny offers not the cup of despair, but the chalice(酒杯) of opportunity."

Needless to say, one of the biggest opportunities given to China is the 2008 Olympic Games. Till now, we have used two sevenths of the preparation time. How much changes have you seen? New roads, new subway lines, public-exercising equipments with beautiful colors, large blocks of grass fields, and also lots of modern gyms which are under construction Piedmont.

Other than those, there are even more good effects brought to us by the Olympic Games that cannot be seen directly. For example, more and more people will get t

Toffee Squares

One of my favorite things about New York City is that there is no shortage of amazing bakeries. After we moved here, I told myself that I would visit as many as possible. That’s a tall order. But, I do it in the name of all the baked goods in the city. How unselfish, right?

In the West Village, there’s an incredibly quaint little spot called Milk & Cookies Bakery. As you might guess, this place is known for its cookies. Quinn and I stopped by last weekend, and we both had a hard time choosing our treats. Ultimately, there were cookies. And maybe a couple of other things.

For those of you who can’t make it to Milk & Cookies, you can get a taste of it from your own kitchen with the Milk & Cookies cookbook. It’s full of recipes for cookies, bars, and other sweet treats.
