Blizzard today announced that their highly-anticipated RPG Diablo III will indeed be available for Nintendo’s Wii system upon release.

“Yeah, we were sitting around in the office one night having a few beers and thought it might be fun to prank Satoru”, says president of Blizzard Entertainment Mike Morhaime in reference to Satoru Iwata, CEO of Nintendo.

“Unfortunately we were so wasted that we didn’t even remember the call until a few days later when Nintendo turned up with a Wii devkit and started getting all excited about a ‘Baal Board’, whatever that is. By then it was too late, and well, you should have seen these guys, man they were excited!”

Nintendo’s Wii has seen great success with popular titles such as Mario Kart and Wii Fit, which utilise the system’s accelerometer and motion sensor control to provide an immersive gaming experience. When pushed on how this would affect a previously keyboard-orientated action game, Morhaime suggested:

“We’re working on a few concepts. I don’t want to give anything away, but let’s just say Diablo works remarkably well as an on-rail shooter. Plus, we’ve always admired Mario as a role model, so how cool would it be to have him take on Mephisto? I mean, just imagine the dialogue possibilities! ‘Hey-a, ‘phisto! It’s-a me, Mario!’. This stuff practically writes itself!”

There is still no official release date for Diablo III.
