RaiderZ Closed Beta First Impressions

Raiderz is an action-mmorpg developed by Maiet Entertainment and published by Perfect World in North America and Frogster in Europe. For those who don’t know Maiet Entertainment is a Korean game company well known for GunZ: The Duel and upcoming GunZ: The Second Duel it was founded 1998 and they first chose the name TEAM after some while they spelled it backwards MAET and then added a ,,I’’ which stands for innovation, they came up with this idea because the name had 5 letters wich indicated the number of people in their company as they first started working in the game industry.

As soon as you start the game you will realize that RaiderZ is something new and exciting. The character creation options gives you the possibility to create a very personalized character, tons of face options, hair, hair color,skin color, face tattoos, eye color, clothes and its not gender locked. You can chose either male or female and you can chose any class you want.

On a graphical scale Raiderz is beautifull with lush tropical islands with a pirate theme ambiance some improvements could be done in the future to sharpen the design on character models but it still manages to look amazing even if the outline of the graphical animations,models and envoirement looks a bit cartoonish.

As an open-world non-targeting, action Rpg, RaiderZ does shine, the combat animations are simply gorgeous and very realistic. The AI is very well developed and reacts to every move the player makes, when you take a quest from an NPC an ingame cinematic transition brings the camera in close up mode giving the players a sense of involvement in the game world. The NPC models are filled with life, The same close up transition applyies when the NPCS crafts different items. When you begin questing you will fight all kinds of creatures and monsters from the smallest critter on the beach to the Giant beasts the roam the tropical world of Raiderz. Across the land you will find monsters and creatures larger than normal mobs those are mini-bosses and need certain strategyies to bring them down, doging attacks and a good party will solve any large creature you come into contact with. Fighting takes stamina points so button mashing like a mad man is out of the question this game need strategy needs skill need planning that’s why it makes it so intresting from other mmos out there. If you ever played Dark Souls you will understand what I mean, you need to block,dodge and take advantage while your enemy is on the ground knocked or stunned.

An interesting system Raiderz has implemented is the ability to take parts and weapons from creatures and use them for an amount of time. Each weapon you pick up has its own combat skill and animation and each piece of meat has a recovery effect or buff. Falling from high distances will take damage and have a few seconds of slow movements to imitate a real leg injury. The skill tree is huge and complicated is actually really simple each class has its own skill tree, in that skill tree you have active\pasive skills and on a higher level you have the Mastery Tree. As you travel across the map from town to town you will see that RaiderZ has a unic and orginal envoirements from the huge pirate ship on the Broken Mast Village on the coastline to the center of the mountains in Rengot village

Crafting System

The crafting system is amazingly simple you fight gather materials go to Blacksmith,Cook,Armorsmith etc and craft weapons,armors and other items you need for your journey. If you want to create a sword or armor each recipe will show the materials required for making it, on each material there is a small lens if you hover your cursor on that lens it shows you what creatures drops does materials that makes crafting fun and simple and enjoyable. You know were each material is and makes farming fun!

Quest and Story

Questing is imensly fun in this game, if you take your time and read the quest you will find it has an exciting story and mistery surrounding each NPC and location. As I could gather from the storyline a huge meteor has fallen from an unknown location on Rendel, as it made impact it destroyed the land and killed a vast number of creatures and forcing them to migrate in populated areas were they normaly keept away from. The High King Roland sent alchemists and researchers to investigate the crash site and the after effects of the meteorite, they soon discovered that the meteor had certain chemical property capable of altering objects and life. I will not spoil the story for most of you so I will stop here, but I higly recommend to pay attention to the questline and storyline to learn the full lore of RaiderZ.

Roaming System

If you want to travel from town to town fast you can borrow a bird called Moa, It’s a temporary mount that gives a burst of speed in the form of a skill, riding a moa will give you movement speed a bit higher than normal so you can move around the areas more faster than you normaly do.

Another interesting feature is the way the game world reacts on quests and events for example in the storyline you are tricked by a mysterious person to release a seal containing a ancient monster and then he plans to attack and kill Tian an NPC from Broken Mast village as soon as the quest enters the journal Broken Mast village is preparing for an attack, soldiers have gathered to repel the attack, barricades and other objects have been added to the game world, it gives a sense of ever-changing situations and I find that awesome.

I find this game to be very entertaining currently its in closed beta, the closed beta will end on the 29^th August . Lets hope that this game will enter open beta this year and we don’t have to wait for such an amazing experience. The content of the game may change until open beta or official release is launched!
