Vindictus PVP Guide for Scythe Evies (Vs Lann)

INTRO: Welcome everyone! This Shimei of the West server in Vindictus :D. This is my evie here~

This is my guide on how to train you on the PvP system in Vindictus against various classes, sadly not all of them yet. In this article you will learn how to maneuver in battle against your enemy; as a scythe evie, maneuver is the most essential tactic. But of course this guide may not help every scythe evie since each class do not fight like the typical class tactics I will mention here; not to mention that people play different PvP rules such as, anything goes, or other rules such as no 4 sp bars skill/no quick slot/no mana shield. Setting aside the first confounding variable, it may be true that people have different fighting styles, but each class has their own set of characteristics that makes them seem like similar fighters. Please note that these are just strategies I tried based on my duels so it may not apply to everyone, and it may not be the best, but I sure do hope it helps every scythe evie here in some ways :)

PVP for Scythe Evies Using Standard Rules: The standard rule is basically all selections in the PvP menu unchecked except for Evie’s mana shields. Most Lanns are typically reluctant to leave mana shields on, so they may either settle for a compromise or not fight you at all. Anyways getting back to the topic, here are several tips for scythe evies participating in PvP using standard rules:

About Scythe Evies Vs Lanns: Keep in mind that sword lanns’ slip dash moves is slightly superior to the scythe evies’ blink. Unlike blink, slip dash gives lanns invulnerability for a short period of time, not to mention they can follow it up with a smash attack known as Double crescent. Blink, at best has farther range, which is good enough. Also, Spear lanns lack the ability to dodge bloody thread as well as mark of death. Keep in mind that Lanns are superior to evies in terms of stamina management or should be. One final Note is that Scythe evies in particular almost have no smash attack priority so try to avoid clashing against lanns with smash attacks, chances are it won’t give you beneficial results.

Scythe Evie Vs Sword Lann: As simple as they may sound, sword lanns should not be under estimated. Like many duels, blade shift will help quite a bit against sword lanns, however, should not be relied upon. A smart lann will use slip dash the moment it sees your evie blink, causing them to evade your possible blade shift attack and countering it with double crescent, which then can be followed up with a gliding fury if they land a critical strike. To avoid this counter create a feint attack by simply tricking the sword lann into thinking you will attempt to use blade shift; in other words, blink towards the lann, and blink back or hop away a few times, this may cause the lann to be open for an attack, which you can either choose to use Hell quake or blade shift, or you can risk it by attempting to use bloody thread; the risk is that most sword lanns can slip dash right before you land the smash attack leaving you vulnerable, in addition, bloody thread can be easily dodged by swords lanns with a single slip dash. When successfully landing a blade shift to your opponent, chances are, the lann will be knocked down, but careful, do not go too close otherwise, you will get caught up in its windmill attack, which can also leave you vulnerable to a gliding fury if the windmill crits.  In close range, a lann will typically use pummel storm (which is LRR), for its speed and power. To evade this, simply either blink back while the lann attempts to use this move, then move in closer, by either sprinting, or blinking and I recommend either using blade shift or hell quake. Spawn a wisp using hell quake, distracting your opponent is always useful, but keep an eye at your stamina. One last warning about Sword lanns, is their sprint smash attack, where they chase you and lunge their sword straight; 75% of the time, it will make an evie stagger, you can avoid this by either bunny hopping left or right, or blinking when the lann gets too close; you can also try to land a mana mine, but it’s not recommended since mana mines are easy to predict if you use them normally. One last thing, to explain is double crescent, more details about is given in the section above. When a lann uses double crescent, it has a high chance of either knocking you down, or worse, canceling your combo or potential smash attack. As I mentioned the stamina management, Double crescent can be avoided by either power sprinting (which is tapping the sprint button, though not recommended for evies due to lack of stamina restoration) or bunny hopping, to either the left or the right side of the lann if the attack is aimed towards you, it should look something like this in the picture below. However do not get too close, or the end result will be getting hit as the picture shows next to it.

Scythe Evies Vs Spear Lann: Surprisingly in my experience, fighting spear lanns were always interesting especially if the spear lann doesn’t rely on the common spin2win move. This fight is particularly interesting simply because, it is one of the few types of battles where a scythe can utilize all its techniques. If the spear lann you happen to be fighting relies on purely spinning, and occasionally using gliding fury when it lands a critical strike, the fight is actually a lot simpler than it seems. This is basically a matter of who attacks first; one common and major mistake scythe evies tend to do when the fight starts they immediately keep their distance. If there is a distance between the two of you, it is more favored for the spear lann since it buys time for the spear lann to use his spin2win move. The ideal distance is shown in the picture below.

The spin2win is devastating in many ways, for high critical rate as well as no chance of being knocked down. However, it has its downsides. One fatal downside is that spear lanns have no dodge capabilities whatsoever; any dodge performed was at best, luck. In addition, for a spear lann to be able to pull off his spin, it must first do 4 normal attacks then hold down the smash button. Now the perfect time to attack is when the spear lann is using his normal attacks, chase the spear lann down with blade shift but be cautious of the windmill attack, which can be followed up with gliding fury as well as lightening fury. Another great time to attack a spear lann is when he uses its fury infusion skill, which is shown in the picture.

The reason why it’s a good time to attack it’s because, during that time they are attempting to raise the lann’s critical rate, once you see that move being activated, spare no time and blade shift toward him. Knocking the lann down during this time is crucial, not only does fury infusion drains a bit of the lann’s HP, but it also takes damage from your blade shift, one more beneficial factor is that the timer on the fury infusion buff is diminishing,. Avoid the initial windmill attack by keeping a fair distance, soon as you see him roll up, attempt a shift, that way he spends the time rolling away from you till the infusion buff is gone. (However, spend no more than two blade shifts in this moment, 3 will leave your evie with a little bit of stamina). As I mentioned earlier, spear lanns cannot dodge, they can roll out of normal attacks but, no matter how hard they try, they cannot escape bloody thread or mark of death. So the general strategy is to knock the lann down with blade shift, avoid its windmill when the lann gets knocked down, get close enough to pull off a bloody thread combo. The lann may roll out of your normal hits, so do not expect the attack to land the first time; which is why mark of death is also an option, it may be weaker, but it is faster to use. You may activate the snap anytime but it is better to snap when the spear lann is performing normal hits to be able to spin. One thing to watch out for is the sprint smash, it can cause your evie to stumble giving the lann time to use his spin. Also a lann isn’t completely gullible and you can’t always prevent the spin move, when it happens, the best way to dodge it is to simply blink behind the lann, opposite of the direction he’s aiming, if the lann is going towards you, make sure you get behind him and blink once more for safety measures; during this, you will get a bit of mana shield chipped off. The purpose is to waste the lanns’ stamina also, making the lann turn while its spinning also takes a bit effort on the lanns’ part. Once the lann stopped spinning, repeat the general strategy I stated above. Pictures showing how to dodge lann’s spin is shown below.
