Atlantica Online Mercenary Review: Beast TrainerBy: Zanpakutou posted at Aug 28, 2011 12:52 pm
The Beast Trainer is the first of the C grade mercenaries available. You have to recruit all C grade of them from quests that involve a Shadow Dungeon that is meant for parties. In general, they have higher stats than D grade mercenaries but require a different type of crystal and jewel to upgrade. Ashens do not work for them. For most C grade mercenaries, you can have 2 of them in your party.
The Beast Trainer is an axe type mercenary. She is recruited from a lvl 44 quest near New Delhi and Mumbai. Her strength and vitality is fairly high so she has good damage and can take quite a few hits. She also has good AP gains unlike the Viking. The only problem is that she has low magic defense like most axe users. It is not as noticeable as the Viking's negative magic defense, but as you fight stronger enemies, you realize that there is easily a thousand point of damage difference between what the Beast Trainer receives and what the other mercenaries receive from the same attack. The axe attacks the targets to the left and right of what you hit so it is good for trying to stun your opponenets. Unfortunately, it cannot hit enemies behind your target. She only has one skill, Beast Summon. It is good if you are attempting to do an AOE (area of effect) type build.
The Beast Trainer's only skill is Beast Summon. It deals decent damage to all enemies. It deals damage based on the level of the skill and the number of upgrades on your Beast Trainer. Unlike most other skills, the damage of Beast Summon can be increased by equipping various "captured" animals as ammunition like a gunner would. Unfortunately, the skill remains fairly useless in late game PvE content. While the damage continues to increase, the HP of enemies and damage of weapons increase much faster. It is useful in PvP if you are using an AoE damage based formation. When combined with other area skills or even skills that reduce magic defense, the results of Beast Summon can be very devastating.
