I just saw this event in Dragon Nest SEA giving a +11 to +14 vortex code if you buy 20 stacks of x10 Altea Boxes (total of 200 Altea Boxes). For those who are not playing Dragon Nest, Altea Box is the equivalent of other MMO's random box where you get random items. Most of these are less than the worth of the box, but there is a small chance where you can acquire an extremely expensive item.

Anyway, this blog is not about the box, but about this event:

A stack of 10 Altea's box cost 9000 CC. As such, 20 stacks of that would be 180,000CC. Regardless of the country's currency, this is definitely a relatively huge cost just to get the free vortex code.

To give you a further background of what I'm going to talk about, you may want to scan some of the comments in their forum: http://forum.cherrycredits.com/topic/133750-event-sure-win-vortex-deal-30may-%E2%80%93-3jun/

As usual, CherryCredits got QQ from a lot of players who couldn't afford. I'll try not to take sides about this first and analyze the event in two opposite views. I'm going to give my own opinion afterwards.

Against the Event

For the majority who are complaining about the event, they said that the requirements are too expensive and it's just to get one vortex code that enhances an equipment from 11 to 14. The primary argument is that this event is made for the "rich kids." As such, how about those who couldn't afford? This event left them in the dust, while rewarding those who can afford. This drew them into a conclusion that the company is really just interested for the money and not its players.

For the Event

It is expected that only a minority are for this event. As seen in the thread, there are only a few who find the event reasonable. As such, there aren't really many arguments from the thread that I could use to support it. The only one that stood out was that, if players don't like the event, then they don't need to participate.

Conclusion

Although I don't really support cash shops, events, or any other game-related things that give unfair advantages to a select few players, we, as players, also have to be open about many other factors. I completely agree that the event is very expensive and that only the few "rich people" can participate in it. If that's the case, then let them be. I've mentioned this before in an earlier blog post, that free-to-play players like us who are unwilling to spend money, actually owe a lot of things to these minorities who spend hundreds and thousands of their money for some in-game items. They are hated by others because they appear to be buying advantages rather than working hard for it. The thing is, they are the reasons why the game is alive and that we have this game to play with in the first place. Without them, the game will close.

I noticed that a lot of people complain about events where they cannot benefit from. It is a mentality that I actually kind of dislike. The game doesn't revolve around a single gamer. If one doesn't like the event, then don't participate and move on. Some other players may like it and no one gamer has a right to dictate what should and should not be.

I am sure that this kind of event is not only present in Dragon Nest but in many other MMORPGs as well. I'm also sure that these kinds of community and mentality are also present in other games. So how about you? Are you for or against these kinds of events?
