In online games today EVERYONE is a hero. Everyone's heard the line "Join x Game, fight to save the world..." (grind). You join this game with the hypeline of being another unknown hero in another random land no one cares about, other than of course the other people who live in that land who also aspire to be heroes. You also know them as your bros, I personally prefer the term Comrade. I REALLY prefer the term "comrade" in the George Orwellian sense of the word. Comrade as in individuals locked in a society, mostly mindless where they are controlled and dictated by the government ... and they call each other comrade from force of habit.
Anyway. This is not about Orwell, this about heroes. About a year ago I began writing an epic novel based around the concept of futurization, technology , child rebels and clones. Around that time is when I first started to realize something, and what I realized from that day changed my line of thinking ever since. What I realized a year ago on that day, was the blatant truth that most heroes have no substance. They utilize a con"troll"ed set of utilities, and follow scipts unlike the heroes 100 years ago who did not follow scripts.
In online games today, everyone is a hero. That very much undercuts the dynamics of the world and makes the game feel less free flowing and more console level like, or scripted. Today it is very easy to be a hero, and since you are reading this, for research purposes I will detail exactly the steps you have to take to do this on any game. But I will save that for the last part.
What lacks are dynamics and true cause and effect decisions. Some days I kind of desire to drop off from the daily chore of fighting monsters to become a stronger person. On those days I would rather drop my sword // gun, etc., go into town and pillage some hero's gold stash before killing and ressurecting him, to assure him he would hold his hero status.. only to kill him again and burn his home XD. After this random moment I too could get back to my grind fighting monsters to become a better hero than he was but not before avoiding bounty hunters out for my head and protectors of the peace who want to kill me for arson.
The worlds HAVE to be less restrictive, bro. If you want anything involving a real community that's how it has to be. It's time to drop the parliament. It is going to be essential to lower the player barriers in these games because people may soon get boring fighting the same cause. Because when you max lvl, you know deep down that you are not nearly the hero that you would like to be. And it is nothing wrong with that, self reflection is one of the first steps to becoming a true hero. You had that observation because the game's creators have not allowed you to reach your full potential.
Any game you login to right now you will see players fighting monsters and/ or beasts / bats.. etc. To grow stronger. Ok great, but nothing special. Everyone has seen this before and knows exactly what's going to happen. The hero will proceed to kill these monsters and after a few hundred or so, the hero will level up and you will see the hero congratulated by random associates. After the congratulatory moment, the heroes don't talk much and get back to killing things again.
It is an interesting idea to juggle with, bad guys in online games. It is a very complex idea to implement into the current formula for MMO games. It is a complicated task for the development team to consider balance of powers, true logical restrictions such as some noob cannot rob you and steal all of your gold you have saved up since beta testing. But done right this can be very fun. It could create a very free flowing, action oriented game. Less monster hunting.
Games like WoW and Rappelz where you can join a pk server has barely began to scratch the surface with the idea of being good and bad. WoW's system is like a mashup of everything cool in online games saved up from data collected 1995 onwards. The problem with that system is that this is a new decade.
Do I want an online game with fully destructable worlds? Probably not. I would just like the occasional chaotic sprawl or arrow shower with the ability to respawn.
I for one am excited to see how the games will pan out.. but for now I have to get going. I'm out but not before I disclose all the information you need right now to become a hero in any game today.
STEPS TO BECOME A GOD:
Step 1. Get lvls. Either kill many monsters to level up, or purchase power leveling services from a third party. Power leveling service will allow you to focus on other accounts.
Step 2. Get money. Learn the game's economy system inside and out. Or buy gold from a third party.
Step 3. Steps 1 and 2 will net you the items you need to emerge victorious on step 3. If you fail at step 2, there used to be ways to pretend being a girl character or other ways to pick up various equipment etc. These alternate methods of obtaining equipment are quickly being drowned out by an influx of people who actually know what they are doing.
Step 4. ???? , by this time you have all of your money, equipment and levels saved up..
Step 5. Profit! Enjoy being a hero!
