Did the Koreans deserve putting 'The First SteamPunk MMO' on one of their MMOs, let alone Steampunk?
As of Jan 2012, Atlus has shut down and terminate service of NeoSteam. The last NeoSteam service that's been running since NeoSteam official launch.
NeoSteam, produced entirely in Korea aimmed to represent Steampunk, one of the most demanding science fiction genres in the MMO community for the player. I played the game and what I found was the most tasteless, unrewarding and painful experiences I've ever played in all my life as an MMO player.
Let me introduce you to Thief. Thief was one of the first Steampunk games and was produced in America. What interested the player into this game world, even thou it was entirely first person was the entire world was crafted and clearly communicated what Victoria era was like. The attention to detail right down to how the way the guards would move and hunt the player eve thou they were really stupid, couldn't swing to save their lives and had the mentally and voicework of morons, went to show that this was true Steampunk.
I read alot of complaints about why people didn't play NeoSteam and learnt that the major one was it wasn't 'Victoria' themed enough. I think that made sense and I didn't see anything Victorian about NeoSteam.
I think it's great to be first but I strongly believe if the company representing their country would make a game about another culture. I think that flawed because they don't fully understand what people went thru during the development of the Steam Engine.
I further lost more respect for Atlus Online for buying the rights and to host NeoSteam because of this. I'm sure they could of checked the content and not host it. (Interestly enough, they did and added more content which contributed to SteamPunk and tried to avoid putting 'First Steampunk' to market the title). That's saying alot because I've played Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine.
I know it's titled NEOSTEAM... ('Neo' meaning 'New'), why is Steampunk such a big deal anyway for an MMO like this? I'm annoyed that Atlus had the nerves to set up a page called 'What it Steampunk?', like the MMO is entirely Steampunk, set in the Victoria Era, will have stupid NPCs and rich folks handing out jobs, even thou it's called NEOSteam!
Don't ask me why... ask the website that marketed and hosted this trash people call NeoSteam!
I finally think the players that invested their cash into NeoSteam are complete morons and need to understand and explore why some games are free to play. I read someone invested $100 in NeoSteam, what's wrong with you?
I didn't stop you, I thought I'll gave people a chance and tried telling them on the forums and no one liked it and I kept getting shot down for it, so don't brother me at all. I given you a chance and where's your MMO now?
I would like to see some morons (other then the Koreans) make a private server of NeoSteam.
