I think MMOs competition in America have died down. I strongly believe that since World of Warcraft went free to play, no one really cares since then (expect the people in this website). I think it's tough because while there some good mmos with good ideas, they don't really complete on many video game level.
I believe it's because consoles hardly have MMOs and it due to this.
Back around 2007 to 2008, MMO were huge. Everyone in Korea knew about an MMO and were playing these new free to play titles. MMOs in the past have one by one shut down and has allow the market die down alittle bit not making it competitive to the point where no one really noticed.
I think if Microsoft had something for their X-box 360, then maybe it would push MMOs back into the mainstream and get everyone connected and taking part into something.
There will always be compitition, just not compared to the 100s of MMOs that were released back in 2008 compared to the major one or two that get released every month in 2012.
