Were introduced with the Mists of Pandaria expansion. They add the game a new means of time consumption to keep you busy while waiting for new content.
What is it ?
Scenarios are short instances consisting of a series of tasks.
What are the rewards ?
For the time being it is exactly 30 Valor Points. Valor Points are used in the new expansion as a currency to buy and upgrade your gear.
What is the level requirement for Scenarios ?
If you want to queue for Scenarios, you need to be Level 90.
What are the item drops ?
Apart from trash items and gold from mobs/elites, there are none.
How does a typical Scenario look like?
Each Scenario will have several stages. Once you complete the final one, you gain your reward (30 Valor Points).
Where do I queue for a Scenario ?
The dungeon finder / raid finder have been revamped into one. The Scenario tab was added right below the Raid finder tab.
Pressing "i" in game (by default) should open up the dungeon finder window and pressing Ctrl (Cmd on Macs)+"i" will open the raid finder tab, from there you just select Scenarios and click on Find Group.
Can I queue for a scenario while on the dungeon finder cooldown ?
No, if you leave a dungeon before it was finished, you will be unable to queue for scenarios, random dungeons and raids in the raid finder.
What's the difficulty of a Scenario ?
To be perfectly frank, I think it's soloable. At least those which were unlocked for me were. I had no difficulties whatsoever with my ilvl489 arcane mage with full PvP armor and Mists of Pandaria enchants. The mobs are usually non-elite npcs and packs (if you're playing the beta then you have probably noticed these strange packs of mobs with low health pool that are present in almost every area in Pandaria, be it scorpions, bees, etc.). The mini-bosses are elites.
How many people do participate in a Scenario ?
Three people. The scenarios I ran thus far required no more than three damage dealers. That's why the queue waiting times were under 30 seconds.
Here are some screenshots of a scenario I did earlier today: [Click on the image to expand]
Crypt of Forgotten Kings: In the centre you can see the user interface of Scenarios. Displaying changes and its requirements. I went there with my freshly-leveled 90 Arcane Mage.
You may remember the bar in the lower middle. It was introduced for the first time in the Thrall quest chain were your aid was required to save him from the elements. You need to fill the whole bar to finish the stage.
The second phase takes lesser than 30 seconds if you AoE the mobs down, they'll die fast.
Afterwards, there were some annoying trash mobs, which were none-elites but had a nasty knockback effect. Could be kited around though. Upon killing them you go to a crypt, where the "mini-boss" resides.
Here's a look at the map with the crypt. There are three packs of trash mobs on the ground down the stairs, two mobs near the mini-boss, whom you can see in the front.
Here's the mini-boss, with approximately 3,000,000 hiyt points. There's no problem in taking him down, even if one of your party members dies. The boss has an ability similar to Morchok in Dragon Soul, where he deathgrips you to his location and you must run away, otherwise you'd die.
I hope you you liked this little preview of Scenarios.
I will be keeping you up to date with these new exciting features of Mists of Pandaria for the whole summer !
