Evony (originally Civony) has been around 2008, was developed and published by UMGE, and since its release has attracted more then 12 million users world wide. However, just last month a new game came crashing into corner of the market that was previously dominated by Evony, Lords Of Ultima developed and published by EA Phenomic Studios. Now, we ALL know that theirs been countless, "Build your own kingdom" games but, none have ever quite reached the level of perfection Evony did until Lords Of Ultima, which is still in beta testing. Evony revolutionized the way that genre of game was played and looked at after 2 years of changing the layout, the gameplay, and the overall feel of the game itself. Then along comes Lords Of Ultima and more or less did what the Skate franchise did to Tony Hawk, blew it out of the water. For those of you who haven't played either let me enlighten you. In Evony, you get a plot of land with a pre determined amount of spaces to build houses, watch towers, barracks, a rally spot, a marketplace, and other various types of buildings to help your kingdom survive and thrive along with some space outside your kingdoms walls to build farms, iron mines, and quarrys. In Lords Of Ultima, you do more or less the same thing except they changed a few things. Their was no longer the space outside of the kingdom, they brought the resources inside the walls. They didn't pre determine the size or shape of the space, they give you a random amount. Also, one major thing they added that Evony doesn't have or that doesn't work as well, peace mode. In Lords Of Ultima you can choose to be a ruler and build your armies to take over others kingdoms or you can choose peace mode where you focus on your economy and work up your resources. Granted, those of you who HAVE played it will know that that is a extremely basic summary of options and differences between the two. In conclusion, I'd like to ask you, what do you think? Do you stick with the original? The one who twisted and molded that genre of game into what it is today, or do you upgrade to the newer generation under the supervision of the gaming giant that is Electronic Arts? In the end, it's all a personal opinion but, let me know yours. I'm interested.
