We walked into the Shrine theater and they handed us 3D glasses, so you know this is going to be an awesome presentation. Once again though, the Interwebz have failed me, so I will post the liveblog when I get back to the convention center. The minutes tick down and we all wait to see what Sony’s response will be to the heavy hitting coming from Microsoft on the lineup side, and the 3D innovation of Nintendo. Personally I can’t wait to finally see Move in action. Wait, does this mean the PS3 will also do 3D? Hmm…intrigued I am.
11:55 AM The lights dim, the music fades, and the Sony E3 2010 press conference begins. Video is now showing the hardward, Images from variousgames, and then a shot of move with the ps3 controller with a keyboard attached. Jack Tretton, CEO takes the stage. Jack is discussing their ten year vision for the PS3, but the images they are showing are of a version I haven’t seen yet, one that’s slimmer, matte surface, and intriguing.
12:01 PM SCEA CEO replaces Jack on the stage. He’s going to focus on 3D. Sony is the leader in 3d. Playstation is the perfect vehicle for 3d in the home. Every PS3 will be 3D enabled through a firmware update. They are bringing us what they call “authentic 3d.”
12:04 PM Killzone 3, a 3d title, is now about to be demoed. Ah, that’s why they gave us the glasses. This is a live demo, of actual gameplay. Oh my, it’s gorgeous.Even the blood spatter indicating the player is hurt is in threed. That’s awesome. Rockets are flying at our face, … man this is incredibly immersive, especially considering theirs no HUD. Now we’re flying a hover rig. I say “we” because that’s what if feels like. Shooting from the air above the target, he’s got no chance. The sound also is incredible, you hear the gunfire dampened by the building around you, and when you’re hit with direct fire, your “ear drums “ ring.
12:11 PM This is the most realistic scifi shooter experience available, coming Feb 2011. We will be fully compatible with Playstation Move at launch. I must say, it looks like everyone is going to need to upgrade their TVs as soon as they can. Crysis 2, Mortal Kombat, Shaun White Skateboarding, NBA 2k11 will join games like The Fight: Lights Out, MLB: The Show, Tumble, iPet.
12:14 PM More video…It’s 3D…TV? No, it’s a selection of games all the 3D available on the playstation consoles. EyePet, MLB: The Show. The Fight: Lights Out, then some more Killzone 3. Tumble, a Move Boom Bloz like game. Crysis 2 looking sexy, Mortal Kombat, Gran Turismo 5, Sly Cooper. Man that’s a lot of coolness coming.
12:18 PM 10th anniversary of PS2, and was the second most played console last year. The Playstation Move is what they call the most realistic of the motion gaming systems. They call it unrivaled precision. The video showing now is about how the developers love Move so much they want to name their first child after it. “Come here, little Move, and eat your breakfast.”
12:24 PM The buttons allow more precision in all sorts of games. Now some new game content announcements: The game they are going to show us a game called Sorcery, specifically designed for the PS Move. The character he plays is a magical apprentice who uses a wand as his weapon, so to use the wand he simply flicks the Move toward the screen. The ball on the move changes color to let him know the potion is ready, then he drinks it. He has a Whirlwind spell that he can steer with the controller, and a cone effect fire spell that he can also draw a wall of defense that he then casts whirlwind through that creates a firestorm when it combines with the fire wall. This game looks incredibly fluid, and uses the capabilities of Move to great effect. Sorcery comes out Spring 2011.
12:32 PM Now onto Sports, with EA Sports titles like Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11. Move is all about one to one movement, which makes playing a golf game incredibly challenging. I think I just gave my first virtual golf clap. This will be a PSN title.
12:38 PM Heroes on the Move trailer: This is a game with Rachet, Jak, Bently, Sly Cooper, Clank, and Daxter in a game together. That looks like a lot of fun, especially with the Move. Also, there will be a brand partnership with Coca Cola.
12:41 PM Kevin Butler just showed up, the PlayStation spokesman. He’s here to focus on the games he says.
12:46 PM Sept 15th Europe launch, Sept 19th US launch. Move controller will be 50 bucks. The remote will be 30.
12:52 PM Jacks back (heh). The PSP new campaign for TV is up on the screen now, and can be continued at Marcuspsp.com. Games like Metal Gear Solid: Peacewalker are exclusive to the PSP. An ARG game called Invizimals is coming and will use a PSP camera peripheral. God of War: Ghost of Sparta tells the origin story of Kratos, and the teaser trailer is short, but very sweet. (What is the 3rd Birthday?) There will be more than 70 new titles coming to the PSP this fall.
1:01 PM PSN Now has 50 million registered users. The Tester season 2 casting call begins today. Little Big Planet 2 demo, yay! Now you can make any sort of game you want, puzzlers, racing games, and even RPGs. This is possible through a new scoring module. Oh now they are showing a Team Fortress like stage. The single player gameplay in LBP2 includes RTS levels, racing levels with NPC AI, and shooters.
1:10 PM PlayStation Plus is a subscription-based service allowing players to pay for extra content and exclusives, along with early access to betas and automatic downloads. It will be a year for $49.99 and available later on this month. Access and convenience for just about three bucks a month.
1:14PM Now the subject of EA content on PS3. There will be a bunch of exclusive content, for games like Medal of Honor. Today they are revealing a new character, named Deuce, a member of AFO Wolfpack. They are now unveiling an all new multiplayer map set in Afghanistan. The beta for the game will be available June 21st, and the game will be coming out in October 12th.
Next: Dead Space 2 live demo. It looks just as beautiful as the first game, with the combat looking just as intense. Isaac is still using his trusty nail gun I see. Good thing this game isn’t in 3d, I’d probably pee myself. Dead Space 2 Limited Edition is coming that will include Extraction.
1:24 PM Portal 2 now takes the stage, and will be coming to PS3. Steam will be part of that experience. They promise this will be the best version. First footage now being shown of the game. We see the destroyed lab rebuilding itself. GladOS tells us “I think we can put our differences behind us, for science…you monster.”
1:28 Final Fantasy XIV footage. Shown. I took as many pictures as I could friends, but check back with Quest! for our hands on with the game later on in the week.
1:30 PM Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood multiplayer first look is now showing. This really looks like a completely separate game from the single player, with unique player characters. The game will be released November 16th.
1:33 PM We’re now show a video montage of some of the new content coming to PS3, Including Tron, Mafia 2, some gladiator game, EyePet, Move games, LBP2, Echochrome 2, GT5, Mod Nation Racers, a new PixelJunk shooter title. DC Universe Online, Sly Cooper, Tron, FF XIV….and more.
1:38 PM Gran Turismo 5 will finally come out after all these years of waiting. It will come out November 2nd, fully playable in 3D.
1:40 PM Infamous 2 footage. I must say this looks like a completely different guy. New abilities, like ice control. The game is coming in 2011.
1:42 PM One last video. Oh wow, it’s a new Twisted Metal game. And now they are going to show us some live gameplay, including Dollface with a motorcycle with flaming chainsaws. Flight is now added to the game. They show the death match, then the new Nuke mode which is team-based objective play.
That’s it. The press conference is over. Check back with us for hands on time with the RPGs from all three console giants.
