My life as a guild leader 18/06/2012

Hi, I'm Icaras, or Alexander. I'm the leader of Genesis Gaming, a previously dominating force in the free2play MMORPG market, currently transitioning into a community and competitive team in League of Legends, Guild Wars 2 and Starcraft II, a couple of my friends said it'd be good for me and maybe for others to find interesting if I post my week to week happenings, in real life and in the virtual world of what goes on and the fun times I face.

Hello!

I started this 'weekly' review last week and I got a lot of constructive feedback on this and I'd love to keep improving this with your feed back and continue working on it as a project. Keep commenting with your idea's as I take everything on board to improve this.

This week week has been a really lazy week for me, Guild Wars 2 Beta Weekend Event 2 finished last week so I've been super busy writing since then (You can check out my overall review of the beta weekend: HERE) So until then it's trying other games; Such as the Secret World! 

What the secret world are trying to do is really cool, I love the interface, the futuristic feel of it and the complete creativity of the team. It's a very fresh feeling for a team to actually feel like they're creating everything up from scratch not copying pre-existing idea's. Of course there is no truly unique idea when it comes to things like monster creation, but some of the things I've seen are generously unique and surprising. My overall thoughts on the game are "Would be amazing..."

Would. I have a huge problem with P2P games. They really get me in a bad mood. Long gone are the days when P2P was a requirement to keep MMORPG's running. Server costs are not that high any more and any company that even starts to develop can easily host servers, hell private servers with better or similar stability of many MMORPG's come out yearly, if a company can't do it then they probably have no business publishing an MMORPG anyway.

It's all a matter of greed and I really hate greed. There is simply no reason to be P2P any more besides the fact you want to take away loads of money from your loyal fans, switch to F2P and make even more money. It's a kick in the teeth to any loyal fan and I won't be part of it.

In other (non-ranty news) I just upgraded the whole of the Genesis Gaming website with a lot of the help from the users upgrading the awards and the overall look and feel we also have a new logo! It looks pretty amazing and I'm really looking forward to everyone taking a look and the site feeling a lot better rounded.

Music wise, I'm obsessed with this song lately, it's easy listening so give it a shot.

On a final note, it looks like I'm going to Rezzed in a couple of weeks. Lots of cool games will be there including the developers of Raiderz and TERA I'd sure like to ask them some questions at their developer confrences, might give me something positive to write about the two games. I don't believe all Perfect World games are bad, but they don't have the best reputation for their cash shops, and well if I hate P2P you can guess my stance on money grabbing cash shops.
