Hi, I'm Icaras, or Alexander. I'm the leader of Genesis Gaming, a previously dominating force in the free2play MMORPG market, currently transitioning into a community and competitive team in League of Legends, Guild Wars 2 and Starcraft II, a couple of my friends said it'd be good for me and maybe for others to find interesting if I post my week to week happenings, in real life and in the virtual world of what goes on and the fun times I face.

11/06/2012

It's Monday and we've just finished with Beta Weekend Event 2 of Guild Wars 2. The beta weekends, for me are a chance to get a look at the competitive scene before it even begins. The first weekend was me exploring game mechanics, W3 and the guild system. This week, it was about me and pushing forward the team. We explored lots of possibilities including a full dps squishy team, a tanky team and other team compositions. It was full on focus for 5v5, because our currently selected homeworld; Desolation thanks to Genesis and other guilds like the PC Gamer guild completely destroyed any competition and by destroyed, I mean literally nothing to do. Every supply point captured, every tower, every keep and Stone Mist Castle captured by us, Genesis Gaming. All entrance points were blocked by many players looking for some W3 action and the other servers abusing invincibility at their spawns, it was quite frankly too easy. It was boring and it's the reason why if we can, we'll be moving servers for Beta Weekend Event 3. We'll be joining a server who's not won any, or very few match up's and see how we do there. Should be nice, I guess.

On the out game side of Genesis, things are going well. Recruitment is remaining steady. We get a few trolls every now and then, but for the most part we've added some very cool people to our community and it makes being on ventrilo every day an ever pleasant experience

The competitive LoL idea is slowly coming along, the players we have in mind are getting better but we keep gaining players and losing them due to them needing to school, or other reasons. It's a pain because we find synergy's with these players and have to re-start progress all over again. However we've found a couple of new hopefully candidates so we should be good to go again. My solo queue progress is, well. Slow. I get to 1250 and then get smacked in the face by a big fat wall of trolls, I can't quite climb out of it. Whether it's three disconnects, a 0/9 top, or someone who is purposefully feeding because he wasn't allowed mid. It's frustrating, but that's part of solo queue! Carry the trolls and feel good about your victory. It's kind of strange writing this, it's kind of like a personal blog, but with a gaming element to it.

The website is coming a long... slowly. It's vastly improved from what it was, but i'd still like to add some custom images and textures to give the website a truly Genesis feel, because right now it feels and looks so stock, it drives me mad. There is good news to this article, though. My family have slowly started to accept what I want to do as a career. My family is very; go to university, study a respected subject and get a good, hard job. But ever since I got absorbed into the world of Gaming, i've wanted something different. My career path is looking to be in New media and journalism for gaming. Play games, write about them, seems easy right? Wrong. It's picking up, but slowly. There is a whole new world of industry I need to learn and it's coming to me bit by bit, so hopefully I can make a stable earning out of it and do everything I want to do and get the most out of life, or maybe I'll just be able to afford my rent and keep a roof above me and my girlfriends head, who knows! I'll probably write one of these every week or so, for myself, if not for others to read. Oh, I'm going to Euro Gamer in September, that'll be fun.
