Players are currently at risk in TERA online, and it's something that EME has known since TERA's launch.
TERA's chat runs on HTML, allowing anyone with even a basic knowledge of it to run a backdoor
and pretty much inject anything into the game, such as photos, spam, etc.
Personal information, credit card information and other things that could possibly be compromised
leave the players worried, and rightfully so.
This issue has been known about since 2013 as confirmed by a reddit user:

"Funnily enough, we've been able to ***** with HTML in TERA like back in 2012/2013 already. Able to modify it in chat and in pet names. Guess it took this long for someone actually malicious to figure it out."

In response to the light of this information however EME has made this statement:

"The TERA team is aware of the reports of exploits involving the in-game chat channel. Shoutout to everyone that has raised the topic over the course of the last 24 hours, we appreciate your concern for the game. Please remember that posting about 3rd party software, hacks, or exploits is against the forum rules. We don't want to shut down communication, but posting about hacks serves to spread information on how to use/obtain them, which we'd obviously like to avoid. If you DO have solid information about hacks or exploits please open a support ticket or e-mail Community@enmasse.com. Thank you!" - EME

Of course, the players aren't having that, and have taken to reddit to warn others about their information
being compromised , EME CM Spacecats though, had this to say in response, despite overwhelming evidence floating around:

"There are very serious claims floating around of what this vulnerability potentially allows malicious users to do. We are taking these claims very seriously but, as of this time, we have no evidence that the vulnerability is being exploited in these ways or that any player information has been compromised."

Of course anyone who brings up the issue of these exploits are given a ban, or their thread locked for:
"Discussing the usage or sharing exploits."
Which isn't the case here.

At the time of writing this, EME has yet to fix the issue and some players have found a backdoor around the current disabling of the chat system.
