Today (August 15) I got a chance to sit down and play the stress test. I decided to try out the sylvari because I hadn't gotten the chance to play them yet. The sylvari are strange to say the least. They are like the elf race I suppose (although they don't remind me anything of elves, but that's what people, and even ArenaNet, compare them with). Born from a tree, I thought the introduction was sort of interesting for them, where they start out in living in a dream and find a nightmare in the dream, and once done fighting this "nightmare" they are brought to the real world (apparently much of their personal story and lore is based off of arthurian legends). To be truthful after that I didn't really find the personal story that great. I thought the Asura's personal story was much better.
I just found it weaker than other races personal stories (not as weak as the human's personal story though). I guess it just didn't interest me that much. Add to the fact that the sylvari don't really seem to have very notable personalities. They are the "noble" race. I have to give it to ArenaNet though, the sylvari setting is amazing. It's breath taking and just plain beautiful. I thoroughly enjoyed exploring the sylvari's home land and the surrounding areas. I have always loved naure-fantasy settings in my MMORPGs, so I was very impressed at how well they shaped the sylvari's land.
I also have to give it to ArenaNet for creating such a unique race unlike anything I've ever seen. It's really nice to see a MMORPG that doesn't have any elves or orcs running around. I hate elves because of MMORPGs and the fact that they've just been overdone to death. I can't in all honesty say that I'll be playing the sylvari though. I just didn't find them as appealing as I did the Asura. There was just something weak about the personal story. Maybe it's just me though because other people raved about it like it was one of the best ones for a race in Guild Wars 2. I may just have to give them another chance once the game goes live.
Anyways, I had a lot of fun (once again) in this stress test and it has just made me more excited for August 25th when the three day head start begins! Questions? Comments? Post them below, and as always, keep it clean!
