Guid Wars 2~The Lore of it All

For some reason... I can't stop nerd writing about this game. I'm sure many people have by now grown sick of seeing these articles. Well too bad! You're going to have to see another one! Anyways, today I'm going to give some of my (not so wise) insight into the lore of Guild Wars 2. Some of things I found interesting was the naming of asura. Asura children who aren't named accordingly are the weird ones and get made fun of apparently! So if you are making a female asura, make sure to end the name in an -i or an -a (these are vowel sounds). If you're a male creating a (hopefully) male asura make sure to end your name in a constant sound. Also don't give your asura a last name. Apparently in the society of asura the asura with last names are considered eccentric, and other asura often ignore their last names anyways. Asura usually have two letters repeating in their names also. Hopefully that helps out people to name their asura properly when the games goes live (especially those who plan on role playing, something I enjoy doing quite a bit)!

Moving onto some actual interesting lore is that of Zhaitan, an Elder Dragon and the main antagonist (for now) in Guild Wars 2. He apparently slept for an unknown time beneath the land of Orr (the Ruins of Orr are what's left of the oldest of the three great human kingdoms on the continent of Tyria.) Zhaitan has the power to control the wandering dead (known as the risen) around Orr and does so in a way that blocks off the way to Cantha (those who played the original Guild Wars should be pretty familiar with Cantha and the rest of you... Google is an amazing invention). I think Zhaitan is going to be pretty interesting to fight because apparently his body is made up of other dragons. Also, because of the explanation of how he blocks Cantha, I think that's sort of a hint to what land mass we'll be seeing in Guild Wars 2's first expansion. I just hope that the battle with Zhaitan is on an epic scale (that's a worry for me as other MMOs I've played, the dragons have failed to impress me).

I have always been a fan of the "spiritual" type of lore and beliefs in fantasy settings, and so it comes as no surprise that the norn come off as an interesting race to me. A lot of people argue that the norn or no different than the humans and that it is lame that two human races were added into Guild Wars 2. I doubt those same people even played the original Guild Wars or they would realize just how important and interesting of a race the norn are. The norn are able to shift into a were-creature of one of the Spirits of the Wild (the Spirits of the Wild are the norn's spirit guides). The most revered animal spirts are Wolf, Bear, Raven, and Snow Leopard. These are considered to be deities, and even so are more revered than worshipped by the norn. In the original Guild Wars norns only shifted into were-bears, but in Guild Wars 2 more were-forms were added, such as the raven, wolf, and the snow leopard (there's also obviously still the option of shifting into a were-bear too).

As you can see I could go on forever about the lore of Guild Wars 2 (and Guild Wars), but I'd probably start to bore you (especially if I started ranting about my views on the sylvari and the Pale Tree and how happy I am to see the tie in between Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 with how they came to be). It really makes me want to get into the world more and explore the lore and story, but unfortunately I must wait until August 25th for the three day head start to get back to the world of Tyria.
