Classic and maybe even some new RPG gamers are already thrilled at the news that Wasteland the classic RPG from the 80s that spawned Fallout, was getting a remake from Brian Fargo (Designer/Director of the original game). This of course was done through the ever growing in popularity with game developers money pit, Kickstarter. Okay, money pit may sound wrong, but when some of these games are raking in a few million off of donations, money pit seems to fit the bill for what it should be called. Not only did the game reach the amount they wanted, but they hit their sub goal of getting over 2.1 million dollars, which gets some people from Oblivion to help out with the game (Not with the coding, but with the designing).

Well yesterday through twitter, some other news cropped up about the game, it will be using the Unity Engine. Some of you may already be familiar with this engine since it is growing in popularity for browser mmos. But besides just being used for browser games, it is a fully functional gaming engine. The engine has been used for everything from console games to mobile games, so it isn't just limited to the browser based games we know already. Some of the more popular titles using the engine are; Samurai 2: Vengeance, ShadowGun, Unearthed: Trail of Ibn Battuta, Paper Moon, and Battlestar Galactica Online. The engines main draw for the engine is that it has a lot of flexibility and rather low cost, having both a free and pro version, with the ability to get extensions designed for specific platforms like Android and iOS. The engine can crank out some really nice looking games when put in the hands of those that know what they're doing, and when it features a free and pro version of Engine, it is great for even the start-up developers to get into.

Being that the engine cost is rather low, this is also good news for the game. Why? Well that means that while they have 2.1 million to develop the game with, only about maybe 3-6 thousand will go into just licensing the engine, the rest can go into development and design of the game. So this means they should be able to really flush out the game and make it what gamers will be expecting and hoping to see from the legends in the gaming industry.

Personally my hopes are set fairly high. Obviously I was too young to play the game when it got first released, but I have been getting really into the Fallout games, especially more as of late, and considering that this is the game that spawned those, I have rather high hopes for this sequel. What do you guys think?
