Why I finally quit WoW for good (I promise!)
Category: Default Game: World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria Posted on Apr 06, 2011 4:11 am 3883Views 44CommentsAlright its been about a month now since I quit World of Warcraft (yeah i know this sounds familiar..."I'm quitting for good! never coming back!....just to log in a couple days later....) BUT this time its for real.
I've had my share of adventures in Azeroth but finally I think its time has come for me. If you care, please read the reasons why:
1) High maintenance:
This game is the mother of all time-sinks the internet has to offer. In order to have the best possible gear, whether it be pvp or pve, it takes metric-crap-tons of time to grind. Just to stay competitive in raids or arenas/rated bgs you really have to treat this game like a job, or else you will not get raid invites to experience the end-game content. And guess what, every new content patch or arena season all your gear gets obsolete or outdated, and you have to do the same grind ALL OVER AGAIN. They've done this for several years now and
people still continue to play into this scheme.
2) Lack of originality:

WoW has been without a doubt the leader in MMORPGs for quite some time now. They do have many elements in the game that make it attractive yes, but it is getting old. Every 'new' raid boss to me seems like a rehash or a variant of some other boss they had released in the past. The "stand here," "dont stand here," "beat the crap out of it," "stop beating the crap out of it," and the occasional "click this" has gotten to be quite stale. Even PvP is not victim to this - MLS, RLS, PMR, etc....the same setups season after season dominating or representing a large portion of the top ranked in their respective brackets.
3) Perpetual class imbalances:

- This is actually the main reason I quit the game. The user has NO say in how their classes/specs will get changed, whatsoever, zilch, nada. Imagine playing a class and spec you love for x amount of years. Then picture some random marine biologist named 'Ghost Crawler' nerfing your toon to the ground, making it unplayable (as in i'd rather staple my genitals into a box of rusted nails than play this game) Blizzard and its games are not run democratically, where the developers take into account the suggestions of the player base and make sound decisions based on the community as some other games do. It is an authoritarian dictatorship where you have no say in the actual mechanics/environment of the game. I can go on for a couple more pages regarding this stuff but then I might end up with a stapler in my hand so.....i'll stop here.
4) Poor community / limited social interactions:

The game is too clique-y and sometimes you cannot interact with people you like, based solely on the fact that you are not in their guild/vice-versa. The cataclysm expansion even went so far as to promote this kind of behavior, where guilds earn levels based on activity within guild-members. Also, WoW's form of competitive pvp is a huge contributor behind the formation of the 'cool kid's club.' It is not uncommon to see the 'good' players only hanging out with other 'goods.' And from my experience, these guys are usually jerks and elitist ***holes. During my WoW binge I even went as far as to turn down gametime with RL friends in the game so I could play with my arena partners who were total strangers to me, just so I could hit an arbitrary score in 3s or whatever.
5) Not fun:

The above reasons, and more, have lead me to realize that this game is not fun. It brings me more stress and headaches than fun and entertainment. It took away many, many, many hours of other things I could've done with my life besides hoping for that 'best in slot' item or 'gladiator' title.
This is just my experience with WoW, and may not apply to you. But if you agree with most of the things I mentioned in this blog, you might want to consider taking a break from the game, or better yet, quitting for good. Thanks for reading and i'll appreciate your thoughts on this if you want to reply.
