First, she declared war on my nation, Amakna during the middle of the night. One of the things she can do as a government member is move money from the treasury around to the nation's territories to buy challenges and change weather etc. She can't touch the money directly. As soon as she declared war on us, she had one of our islands conquered. Since the island belonged to Bonta now, she transfered a 30,000 kamas from Bonta's treasury to the island.
Naturally as soon as we saw that our island was stolen, we moved to take it back. And with it, money straight from Bonta's treasury. Bonta was PISSED. Rather than ask for the money back(we're the reasonable nation), they started attacking our players on our own soil. During this time I was Zent's vice governor so i immediately got a handle on this. I isolated the 30,000k onto a territory where Bonta couldn't reach them and waited for some kind of negotiation from Bonta to begin. But nope, Bonta continued to kill Amaknian players all day. I got a squad of guard players and directed them around the nation to take out all the Bontarian kill squads and we kept this up until Zent decided to call up an Emergency National meeting at our castle.
Seeing this thread really brought me to my senses and i started to really see how this money was affecting my nation. The next day i brought my opinion to the Cabinet members who were online and to my surprise, i found that our governor Zent agreed. We should give the money back but to all our prideful Amaknians, we should go to bonta and absolutely ruin them before we give the money back. We called up a 2nd emergency meeting. There wasn't as many people online but we needed to see public opinion one more time. We talked about our plan to win the war and then give the kamas back anyway, and then I wrote up a new poll. "Give them back" means give them back now and end the war, while "keep the kamas" means kick some ass first. The way i phrased this poll would come back to bite me.
In the end, Amakna wanted 1 more day of war. This time we would take the war back to Bonta! We would go to their soil and kill their players, take over key areas, and taunt anyone dumb enough to come alone. Our non-pvp players would travel in groups and ruin their ecosystem, chopping down trees, pulling up crops, and over-populating monsters. As everyone moved out, a spy for Bonta made himself known. He was a friend and didn't want me involved with this. He agressed me as i was leaving the castle and i was locked in a battle. In a feat surprising ME AND EVERYONE i actually managed to kill him(I can't tell you what a shock this was). After leaving his corpse and continuing down the road, he logged onto another character, who appeared in front of me, and agressedme again. He let me know that he had characters all down the road ready to stop me but i just laughed. Witnesses jumped into the fight during the placement phase and killed him for me. No one was going to stop me on my way to Bonta. I set a time for 8:00PM server time that i would give the kamas back to Bonta and told everyone to do whatever they wanted in Bonta until then. The money would be leaving our nation whether we won the war or not so everyone should satisfy themselves.
When i got on Bontarian soil, i remembered that I'm a low level, non-pvp class, with a dungeon build and immediately ran to a safe place in Bonta. But not just any safe place. A few days prior, i had discovered that no one can agress you if you stand on a Mine. Talking has always been my strength so i found a Mine in the middle of the open so all Bontarians could see me....and started a little Q&A with them. They're surprisingly reasonable when their means of killing you is taken away. After about 2 hours of talking with the enemy, i suddenly had Bontarian fans and many were on our side now. :P
But it was nearing the time to transfer the kamas back to Bonta. I contacted their Governor and informed her to get her island conquering team ready. At 8:00(it was 7:10 currently), i would transfer the money to the island so Bonta could re-conquer it. I let a Bontarian kill me so i could be forcibly deported to my nation's capital(suicide is the greatest shortcut), but then Governor Zent said something worrying. He proposed that we let him move the kamas and take the blame for everything since he's the one that took the money alongside Bontarian ex-vice governor Freya. The Cabinet and i called him and idiot and I secretly moved the kamas to another area in case anything stupid happens. Then i traveled to the area and guarded them. What was zent losing his head for? I'd be finding out soon. People started logging in. People who'd missed the meeting but saw the poll on the nation's site. I had designed the poll with the people that were in the meeting in mind, but not for anyone else. For everyone that wasn't at the meeting, there was no explaination for the choices...and their meanings looked quite clear. When they started finding out what i was about to do, everyone was getting mad at ME. Accusing me of going against the nation's wishes. Calling me a slave for Bonta. It went on and on. Things like this only made me remember that terrible thread(now at 25 pages) and only strengthened my resolve. The governor's term would be over in a few days and elections would begin. Like HELL i'd leave this situation in the hands of someone else. I was ending this tonight, and i was ready to risk my reputation to do so.
As 8:00PM got closer and closer, even members of the cabinet were starting to change their minds. The Army General's guildmembers found me and attacked me!! Everyone had lost their minds. I couldn't wait to get rid of this damn money!! 7:55 rolled around...
"Cassidy has been dismissed from the position of Vice Governor."
"Zent has been dismissed from the position of Governor"
"There's an election in your nation! Why don't you participate?"
What? Me and everyone around me was shocked. Zent had fired me and then himself, 5 minutes before this situation was set to end. I immediately added Zent to my blacklist so he couldn't explain himself to me. I walked out of a crowd of laughing players and told my guild "I'm running for governor. Someone lend me 100,000k." I jumped on the ballot ready to fix this stupidity. I got whispers from Bonta's governor telling me the killing wouldn't stop. She can't tell her citizens to stop until the money is back in their nation, but she issued a truce for the next governor to agree to or reject. Whoever becomes the next governor would decide the fate of both nations. I couldn't believe this. That's when i remembered, the nation's treasurer is a member of my guild!! I can still make the transfer!! Zent had forgotten to fire him. I talked with him and even though he disagreed, he trusted my word. We moved the money onto the island and the Bontarians captureed the island. Bontarians were to not be hostile...but our Army General showed up...he was pretty pissed. He didn't start that way though. While Bontarians were not supposed to attack us, it didn't stop the trash talking. And our Army General seemed to really take this stuff to heart. He brought up reasons why we should continue the war, citing the murders of our citizens as one of them but it was pretty obvious that the trash talk was what was getting to him. Either way, the war couldn't end for another 2 days because it requires a governor to end the war.
I isolated myself to a neutral area so i could take on the barrage of private messages without being killed by random players. The honorable path is certainly the hardest. I wouldn't be safe in any of the nations until this all blew over. Then someone told me to unblock Zent. I was pretty much cooled down now so i unblocked him to see what he had to say about this. Unfortunately, it was just like i'd suspected. He had fired me and himself with the intentions of taking on the blame of this whole mess for himself. He didn't like seeing the firestorm that was erupting on me and wanted to preserve my reputation. I let him know once again that he's an idiot and even now i don't intend to let him take the full blame. I can't speak for the rest of the cabinet but by standing behind zent, i was putting my faith in this government system. When something goes wrong, we all take responsibility. From then on I was even more open and honest with my answers to everyone's messages. I threw out my own personal opinion and moved to continue doing my job as a vice governor until a new governor was decided.
While the elections rolled on, i got lots of private messages. Many supported me and many absolutely hated me for what i had done. The hate was quite strong but with love balancing it out, i wasn't sure if I'd done the right thing or not. But at least people were finally starting to come to their senses. They didn't seem to realize that they were victims of Gold Fever and i didn't bother explaining it. Not that it was a silly concept, but the forums were filled with threads about this. I find it hard to post in a thread that's about me, even if only to disprove some of the rumors and lies floating in some of them. There were even screenshots being used out of context about me as if they were some kind of damning evidence. I remained quiet until the day of elections and i was surprised to actually win the elections!! And it wasn't even close!! Those against me were now the minority. From now on I'll have to make it my responsibility to get Amakna cleaned up. A few of the cabinet members quit their positions but I was just glad this sillyness was over.
